Afterwards, continue on to explore the ancient royal capital city of Angkor Thom. Visit the Bayon temple with its hundreds of giant smiling stone faces peering at you, the Baphuon temple with its intricate carvings all around and the best view of Angkor Thom from the top. Day 3

Exploring the remote temples of Angkor Archaeological Park

Today you will visit some more remote Angkor temples. About 16 miles (25 km) from the main group of Angkor temples, Banteay Srei is a 10th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and considered the birthplace of Khmer architecture. Not like other Angkor temples which impress with their grandeur, Banteay Srei is quite smaller but it draws admirations with its red sandstone walls and the strikingly intricate decorative carvings that are beautifully preserved. After visiting Banteay Srei, continue on to the ancient city of Hariharalaya, which flourished in the late 9th and early 10th centuries. All that remains today of the city are the ruins of several royal temples which are the oldest temples in the area. At the end of your temple tour, you will return to your hotel in Siem Reap.
